Our Sofia Development centre
Ocado Technology established its Sofia development centre in 2016 and since then the capital city of Bulgaria remains home to one of our key hubs for innovation in Software Engineering, Robotics, AI, ML and Data Science. We have a strong leadership team in Sofia, which drives the future of our products forward. The tech professionals within the centre work on solving challenging tech problems, contributing to delivering the pioneering Ocado Smart Platform.
The Sofia office is a true innovation hub, renovated in 2022 to reflect the needs of our tech professionals to collaborate and maintain the true spirit of the community we are. Laboratories, meeting rooms, collaborative working spaces, a games room, state-of-the-art coffee machine and so much more are here to make Ocado Technology a great workplace in Sofia.

Bot Availability
Developing the next-generation software for the mobile robots, which run on the grids within our highly automated warehouses.
Some of the projects we work on are:
Developing software for Embedded Systems to control the hardware of the bots and mechanics in the warehouse.
Bot Software Management, Logging, and Gateway processes from the moment a bot “wakes up” throughout its entire life cycle.
Engineering & Control Systems
A suite of applications to ensure our hardware is working reliably, and any recovery or maintenance is as efficient as possible. We also leverage simulations and digital twins for fast and efficient testing of new concepts and optimizations.

Hive Manager - our powerful cloud-based tool that enables efficient grid management.
In Sofia, our state-of-the-art laboratories is where we innovate with ease. We build bots across different fleet generations, dextrous robotic arms for robotic pick R&D activities, smart tools and software for bot diagnosis, preventative maintenance servers for automated testing of the communication solutions within our automated warehouses, and advanced computer vision systems.
