Online retailer Ocado gives shoppers the choice to import their ‘favourites’ from other supermarkets for the first time in the UK

Today in a UK first Ocado, the country’s largest online supermarket, announced that anyone shopping online with Asda, Tesco, Sainsbury’s or Waitrose can now import their ‘favourites’ list to ocado.com with the touch of a button. Until now, switching online supermarkets was a time-consuming chore and Ocado found creating a shopping list from scratch put many consumers off trying a competitor service. With the launch of Ocado’s innovative new feature, shoppers are now free to switch supermarkets with ease.

So how does it work? This ground-breaking new feature allows online shoppers to transport their data to ocado.com so their preferred products will instantly appear in their Favourites tab and can be easily added to baskets. This is a unique piece of software developed by a team of experts within the Ocado Technology department that puts the control back into the hands of the consumer with a couple of clicks.

Jason Gissing, Ocado Co-Founder commented: “We are giving shoppers more choice and more freedom, ruling out the need to start from scratch when doing their weekly shop. We know online shoppers want to try Ocado, but feel trapped as their favourites are stored with their current supermarket – with this initiative we are giving the power back to the customer.”

The feature will also work for customers wanting to export their ‘favourites’ list from Ocado, giving consumers the ultimate freedom of choice when making their grocery buying decisions.

Notes to editors

HOW TO GUIDE:

Log in to your account on ocado.com and go to your favourites page, found in the grey tab at the top.
Click on the blue ‘Import your favourites’ button – this will open a pop-up window.
Select the supermarket you want to import favourites from and enter login details for that supermarket.
Click ‘Import favourites’ and mySupermarket will securely transfer data about your favourites. This will be used to add new items to your Ocado favourites.
When the import has finished, you’ll be able to transfer favourites from other supermarkets using the same simple tool.
