Ocado Engineering

Ocado Engineering is about people. Our engineers are experts in a broad range of skills so we can identify partner requirements and deliver innovative solutions. 

Our Engineering Design teams are responsible for designing our Customer Fulfilment Centres. They develop bespoke equipment layouts and detailed implementation plans.

Our Supply Chain teams take care of the manufacture and procurement of our technologies, as well as project engineering and product support. We source components and manage international manufacturing partners - commissioning products to meet our exacting standards.

Our Construction and Installation teams project manage and install our technologies around the world. This includes everything from our mechanical handling equipment, conveyors, and robotics, to electrical and data distribution, refrigeration and HVAC systems, and civil and structural engineering.

Our Engineering Operations teams are our front line - responsible for sustaining and optimising our robotics and automation within our partner sites around the world. Our maintenance and controls systems engineers work with our retail partners, ensuring that every CFC runs efficiently, 24/7.

Here are some of the roles in Engineering Operations at Ocado Engineering:

Maintenance Engineer / Engineering Technician

Take care of anything from our warehouse robots and sophisticated conveyor systems, to mechanical handling peripherals. Make sure regular maintenance is up to date, and be on the scene for diagnosis and repair when needed.

Grid Operator

Oversee our bots, making sure that the warehouse's automated 'hive' is working efficiently. Be on the front line when action is required to keep things running, ensuring our Fulfillment Centres run 24/7

Controls Engineer

Look after mission-critical PLC and SCADA components and systems across our automated operations. Analyse data and help us constantly monitor MHE performance, while being ready to solve problems on live systems.

Senior Maintenance Engineer

Be an expert on our automated mechanical handling equipment. Manage and mentor Maintenance Engineers and Technicians, as well as working with other teams to plan and carry out a range of field engineering projects.

Engineering Team Manager

Manage our Engineering shift teams as both a skilled manager and an accomplished Engineer. Reinforce and inspire our safe work culture, liaise with our retail partners' teams, lead daily briefings, and ensure our engineering and maintenance priorities are met.

UK

We work with Ocado Retail, Marks & Spencers, and Morrisons in the UK where we currently have seven large scale Customer Fulfilment Centres (CFCs). 

Europe

In France, our partners Group Casino serve Greater Paris and further from their first CFC in Fleury-Mérogis. In Sweden, ICA Gruppen have a CFC in Brunna near Stockholm, and another facility in Arendal. Alcampo's first CFC in Spain will serve the Madrid region from 2024, and Auchan Retail Poland’s first CFC will serve the Warsaw region from 2024. 

North America

We have high profile retail partners in both the USA and Canada. In the US we have partnered with Kroger and are committed to building capacity equal to 20 CFCs across the country. In 2021 and 2022 six Kroger OSP-based CFCs have gone live.  In Canada our partner is Sobeys and we currently have two live CFCs in Toronto and Pointe-Claire, with another in progress in Alberta.

Asia-Pacific

In Japan, we are working with Aeon to open its first CFC in 2023, in Honda-cho, Chiba-City - a facility that will serve the Kanto region. Another is planned for Hachioji, Tokyo, with more to follow. In Australia, our partner is Coles, with CFCs currently under construction in Sydney and Melbourne - both due to go live in 2023.
